Today I posted my 2010 Love in Review on Facebook. It was so hard to choose from the thousands of pictures. I had the best clients in 2010 and I do little advertising because they're so great at "spreading the word" about me. You spend a lot of time planning for your wedding but there really isn't a sure fire way to plan your photos. I constantly tell my couples, I can guide you but ultimately it's you that makes the photo. I hope my review shows some of that. And for my "babies" out there, I'm still working on my Family Review so check back for that soon!

Some New Things Are Coming! I've been working with the fabulous people at Hoppmann Creative on new print materials as well as a new website. I'm really excited to finally tie everything together. My blog will be moved over to the new site to keep you up-to-date on all the latest. Look for new things to come in the next month! And don't forget to pick up the latest issue of Weddings Unveiled Magazine!

Lastly, mark your calendars for February 20, 2011! Come see us at the Charleston Area Convention Center from noon-5pm for the Southern Bridal Show! I am nominating my beautiful daughter, Krista Davis and her handsome fiancée, Chris Neece! Their wedding is planned for October 8, 2011 at The Island House on John’s Island.

First I have to say how proud I am of Krista and her journey over the past several years. She became a single mom at the age of 17 and to say that made things just a little tough for her is an understatement! But she worked hard, finishing high school and going on to college. While raising her son and working part time at a restaurant, she accomplished her goal of graduating from the College of Charleston this past May!

Of course my dream for her was to find a wonderful man who would love her, treat her with respect and accept and love her son Logan, and she found all of that in Chris. He is a hard working guy and has great values.

Together they make a wonderful couple and they are working very hard to save and buy a home. Krista has dreamed of a Charleston wedding and I know her story will be told beautifully through pictures done by Chi Photography!

Jessica and I officially first met in grad school but I guess I could say we have Tiger Woods to thank for bringing us together…………..technically.

She invited a large group of friends to Atlanta for a golf championship. I got a last minute invite after someone else dropped out.

Somewhere between the first putt and trophy ceremony I made her laugh. A lot. She did the same.

Several months (and a lot of gchat conversations and secret recon between our mutual friends later) our first official date consisted of me cooking fajitas and the two of us watching Elf.

Fajitas. Elf the Movie. Clearly the quintessential recipe for forever.

As silly as it sounds, I'd never had a girl for a best friend until her.

She’s all things UF.
I’m Georgetown basketball.

She’s South Carolina born and raised.
I’m as Connecticut as a Ralph Lauren ad.

She watches Jeopardy every night.
Well, I guess I do that too now........

It has been three years from that first date and our relationship has survived time and distance. I couldn't imagine my world without her. She is caring, loving, and the funniest woman I know.

I’ve been searching for the perfect Christmas present, and I remembered her talking about how much she loved your photography but that it didn’t fit our wedding budget. I am sure that November 5, 2011 will go by like a whirlwind for the two of us and I know the moments where she feels the most beautiful and I feel the most lucky are the ones we want to remember forever.

I can’t imagine anything more special, and hopefully you’ll agree.

Nathan & I met in 2004 at Trident Tech. We met when we had three out of four classes together. His smile brightened up any room he was in. One day he approached me and asked me for my phone number which led to a lunch date and thus the beginning of our love story;

In October 2006 we found out that we were expecting our first baby together. In January 2007, two weeks after we got news that we were expecting a boy, we found out that our baby Nathan had triploidy (three of every chromosome instead of two). I lost him on January 21, 2007 after being in labor for many hours. It was very difficult for Nathan and I, but we made it. Through the heartbreak we focused on our careers. Nathan became a K9 police officer and I a certified vault teller in the banking industry.

Our love story is proof that through sadness and happiness we will remain committed to our relationship. Our love story will continue to the next chapter in our lives when we wed on April 9, 2011 at Santee Canal State Park, where I will marry the man of my dreams!

Sometimes people ask me why I became a wedding photographer. It's so interesting - being a part of someone's life on such an important day, being backstage for all the little things that happen, getting to know people, families, and the reasons why people get married in the first place.

This is the reason I am going to be shooting a wedding for free this year! That's right - the travel (if applicable), shooting and online posting for the couple are on my own dime.

What exactly does the winner get?

~ Up to 6 Hours of Ceremony and Wedding Day Coverage

~ 1 Bridal Portrait or Engagement Session

~ a DVD with all the High Resolution Images

~ and Online Photo Viewing

Here are the rules:

1. Couples must be getting married in SC within 2 hours of Charleston sometime between January 2011 and December 2011 and have a set date and location. The wedding date must be available so check with me if you aren't sure.

2. If you are a bride or groom who has already booked me for their 2011 wedding - guess what – you can enter too! If you win, the BALANCE of your wedding contract will be “PAID IN FULL”. There will be no refunds on retainers but this is your chance to have more $ for all those extra details that budgets are sometimes tight on.

3. The bride or groom must be a Facebook fan.

4. You must send me your story about why you deserve for me to shoot your wedding for free. Include a recent photo, the wedding date and location! Parents, friends and family may also nominate a couple.

5. The couple must be willing to appear on my blog and have their story on my blog.

Entries are due by December 27th. I will choose 3 of my favorite entries and post their stories on Facebook for my fans to vote on. The winner will be announced on January 1, 2011 via my blog and Facebook.

To enter simply drop me an email titled ‘We want Chi to rock our wedding!’ to chi@chiphotographyofcharleston.com and let me know, in no more than 200 words, your story.

There are no strings attached - you won't be forced to buy anything else if you don't want to. This is solely an opportunity for me to give a deserving couple something that I hope they will treasure. Feel free to send this entry to your deserving friends. I hope to find one really special couple to do this for.

With the bride and groom both from New York, all of their wedding guests traveled down to Myrtle Beach, SC to attend their fun filled, and always entertaining, event at the Embassy Suites. They seemed to always have something up their sleeve to keep their guests entertained.

The groom started off his getting ready photos by surprising his groomsmen by falling into the pool while pretending to pose for photos. It was a practical joke the groomsmen vowed to take revenge on. The bride and groom also brought with them from New York their 1930 Rolls Royce which they have restored and use as a rental up in New York. If you watch "My Fair Wedding with David Tutera", you can find their beautiful car in one of the recent episodes. The car also set the theme for the wedding cake.

They did a great job keeping the guests entertained with their wonderful dancing. And the musical chairs competition with the brides bouquet as the prize got very cut throat. Hope y'all enjoy!

Marshal + Julie :: Engagement Session

I was thrilled when Marshal called me to tell me he wanted to surprise Julie by proposing to her during a photo session with me. Marshal is in the military and has to transfer to Florida now so Julie, a nurse, quit her job and is going with him. When he told me that I knew she'd say yes. They live downtown off of East Bay and wanted photos taken of that area to remember their time in Charleston. They brought along their very cute and well behaved dog named Ries for a few of the photos. So we started down at Waterfront Park, worked our way towards the Battery with a quick stop at their apartment for a clothing change (and so Marshal could pick up the ring). We walked down to White Point Gardens where he got down on one knee.

Kara and Bill contacted me to photograph their very intimate wedding at the Citadel Summerall Chapel. Guests included just themselves and their children - her sons, his daughters - now a new blended family. The boys were busy keeping the girls smiling thru the ceremony trying to keep them from crying, it didn't work, I think everyone was crying, even the minister. It was a very sweet ceremony with photos taken just outside the chapel on the lawn.

Meet Aubrey & David

I had the pleasure of doing their engagement session last September. I look forward to reading Aubrey's blog about their wedding and I can't wait to photograph their wedding this April.

Here's a little bit about them written by Aubrey:

We met in a pretty normal way. Dave used to work at a computer store/print shop downtown. There was a little sandwich shop around the corner where I cashiered during lunch. Dave used to come in and read during his lunch and eventually asked me to meet him for a beer.

I can't say the beginning of our relationship was anything out of the ordinary. For the first couple weeks, we kept things very casual. I thought he was very nice, but I just wasn't sure that I was into him.

Then I stopped by his store one afternoon to thank him for a CD he had loaned me. He was standing behind the counter with a cup of coffee in his hands, and the sunlight was falling directly on him. And I noticed that he had the the most sparkling blue eyes that I had ever seen. Something sparked for me, and my friends told me for weeks afterward that I was beaming whenever his name was mentioned.

He's never really been able to get rid of me since =)

Most people who meet us will be struck with the fact that we have pretty different taste in a lot of things, but when we decided last year to get married, we agreed on a lot about our wedding. We wanted a small gathering of our closest family and friends. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere with good food. We wanted to have fun. Weddings should be fun.

So we’re aiming for that on a budget: a beachy location, shrimp and grits for dinner, jukebox as a soundtrack and key lime cupcakes for dessert—all accented with the love and laughter we’ve had together for the last five years.

As we’ve planned the details of our wedding together, we’ve tried to incorporate some elements of a traditional wedding, while keeping an island-time vision and going with the flow. And one of our top priorities was choosing a photographer whose images would be unique to our day as we start this new leg of our journey together. We already chose Chi; we know she’ll get the job done and hopefully have fun alongside us that day. Getting a portion of our photography for free? That’s icing on the cupcake.

Free Wedding Photography Contest!

Being that February is the Month of Love - I thought this would be a good month to hold this contest.

Sometimes people ask me why I became a wedding photographe r. It's so interesting--being a part of someone's life on such an important day, being backstage for all the little things that happen, getting to know people, families, and the reasons why people get married in the first place.

This is the reason I am going to be shooting a wedding for free this year! That's right--the travel (if applicable), shooting and online posting for the couple are on my own dime.

What exactly does the winner get?

~ Up to 6 Hours of Ceremony & Wedding Day Coverage

~ A DVD with all the High Resolution Images from your Wedding

~ & Online Photo Viewing

Here are the rules:

1. Couples must be getting married in South Carolina sometime between March & December 2010 and have a set date and location. The wedding date must be available so check with me if you aren't sure.

2. If you are a bride or groom who has already booked me for their 2010 wedding - guess what – you can enter too! The BALANCE of your wedding contract will be “PAID IN FULL” if you win. There will be no refunds on retainers or any monies already paid towards your wedding contract.

3. The bride or groom must be a Facebook fan. You get bonus points if you have friends or family become fans on my Facebook site too. They need to leave comments on why you deserve to win.

5. The couple must be willing to appear on my blog and have their story on my blog.

Entries are due by February 21^st. The final three couples and stories will be posted on my Blog February 22, 2010 at which time I will take viewer recommendations on who should win. But I will make the final call. The winner will be announced on February 27^thon my Blog & Facebook fanpage.

Diana & Tre had their wedding at Middleton Place last October. Despite gray clouds, not a drop fell. This was one of my favorite location picks of 2009. Love the simple elegance and the affordability of the location.
